A generic term for software services and applications that are provided to the user via the internet, rather than being installed on a computer hard disk. Cloud applications are used in a web browser; examples include office applications (such as Google Drive) and backup services (such as Dropbox and Mega).

Jargon Buster

Media Access Control. A unique code that identifies any network adapter. A laptop PC might have one MAC for its wired network socket and another for wireless.
