Hi SeniorNetters !
I am a retired IT Management professional. After taking early retirment, I have been volunteering with the Laura Fergusson Community in Naenae for assisting the differently-abled persons in pursuing their interests and hobbies. I have also been actively involved with Red Cross Refugee Services as a ‘Volunteer Support Worker’ for helping out with the smooth settlement of newly arrived refugee families in Lower Hutt. These families from all over the world are accepted through a screening process by NZ government under its humanitarian commitments to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
Originally being a Mechanical Design Engineer in the early 70’s, I switched over to IT Systems Development in the late 70’s. Then, after doing my MBA in early 80’s I moved to ICT management. Since then, I have worked in various capacities in the government ICT Departments in different countries. My association with computers dates back to late 70’s from the IBM 1401single user punched card system days and most of my professional experience is from overseas. Four years back, after finishing my post graduate qualification in Information Management from the local Victoria University of Wellington, I came in contact with Laura Fegusson Community and at that time I decided to take early retirement from my profession and to start working as a volunteer in the social / community sector in Lower Hutt.
I have been a member of SeniorNet since last three years. Besides being a volunteer assistant tutor in the SeniorNet, I am also a member of the elected committee (2014-15) which is managing the operational and organizational affairs of SeniorNet Hutt City Inc. I am looking forward to attending a number of courses being conducted by fellow Tutors and growing my association with SeniorNet into a mutually beneficial and rewarding long term relationship.
