BIO - Geoff Honey
I grew up in south Wellington and attended Wellington Technical College before taking a degree in Civil Engineering at Canterbury University. My first job was with the Hutt County Council helping to design and build sewer reticulation in Wainuiomata at the time that the treatment plant was being built there.
I spent most of my working life as a structural engineer in Wellington apart from three years of OE with my wife in London and nine months in France. I became a partner in a Consulting Engineering firm in Wellington and led the team that produced all the design and construction drawings for the Takapau Freezing Works in Hawke's Bay. My interest in computers grew from the time when the firm had a simple calculating machine then a mini-computer followed by PC workstations for computer aided draughting and I was involved in managing and programming this resource.
I joined SeniorNet Hutt City after I had retired and not long after it had started. I was quickly "volunteered" into the team that was looking after the computers and their software. The production and editing of course manuals has been another task that I enjoy but the greatest satisfaction comes from tutoring and seeing members gain confidence in the use of their computer and expand their horizons.
